Support the hull before loosening anything. Everything else in this article assumes the boat cannot move.
Reading the joint
A weeping keel joint is not automatically a bolt problem. Rust staining that comes back within weeks of a fresh coat usually is.
Taking the load off
Back the nuts off a quarter turn at a time, working outward from the centre, so the joint opens evenly rather than hinging.
Cleaning the seat
Both faces have to be dry and bright. Old sealant in the joint is what stops the new bedding sealing.
Bedding and torque
Bed the keel, then torque in a star pattern in three passes. Come back after a week afloat and check it again.
